Wanaka Throw Gauntlet Down To Waimak

Wanaka has thrown the gauntlet down to Waimak in the Southern League Promotion Play-off series after the Central Otago side won the 1st Leg 5 - 1, in Wanaka on Saturday, with the 2nd Leg in Kaiapoi this Sunday.

After an even opening, Wanaka took the lead after 36 minutes when Ben Sippola scored which was quickly followed by a second minutes later from Daniel Brum. Wanaka was unlucky in not increasing their lead before the break.

Stephen Sprowson then put the home side in control when finding the back of the net in the 65th minute. Joshua Vialoux reduced the margin five minutes later before Wanaka ensured Waimak would have a steep mountain to climb in the reverse fixture when scoring twice in the final seven minutes of play, with John Plimmer adding his name to the score sheet before Sprowson completed his brace in added time.
