Coastal Spirit SAS claimed the league cup 'double' when they defeated Cashmere Technical 2 - 0 in the Blackwells Reta Fitzpatrick Cup Final after earlier winning the Premiership.
In a highly competitive game, both sides looked to get forward whenever possible, with Technical going close from a Jonelle Arthur freekick in the 19th minute. Una Foyle parried the ball away, and Kate Taylor was first to the rebound but fired on to the post. Minutes later, Coastal SAS took the lead after some good work from Mel Cameron, who found Zoe McMeeken, who fired home on the second attempt. Chances were created at both ends with the game being played at pace, but no additional goals were scored before the break.
The second half continued in a similar pattern, with Mel Cameron showing her finishing touch when turning and meeting a cross from Jayda Stewart on the hour. Technical lifted the pace of their play with Kate Taylor trying to get forward whenever possible. Both keepers produced several good saves, with Technical unable to crack the Coastal defence. Coastal was tested for the entire 90 minutes, which will help Coastal SAS going into their semi-final of the Kate Sheppard Cup this coming Saturday against Hamilton Wanderers at 1 pm.
